“Paul McCartney Change Begins” Print by Shepard Fairey (Onsale Info)

With Shepard Fairey prints, there hits and there are misses, and I consider this one a pretty big miss.  That being said, I’m sure it will still interest some of you.  The print, which is a poster for a concert to benefit the David Lynch Foundation, is an 18″ x 24″ screenprint available in red and blue colorways.  They are limited to 600 (though only 100 of each will be for sale at Obey Giant).  These go up today (Tuesday, April 28th) at a random time.  Visit ObeyGiant.com.

  1. I’ve always thought of Paul McCartney as a 200 ton copper and steel woman standing alone in the New York Harbour. Now this confirms it.

If you hadn’t seen the Smashing Pumpkins Zeitgeist album cover don’t bother looking now.

  2. It’s always amusing to see that Fairey manages to put out better than a print a week, some good some bad, and yet everyone has an opinion about the art.
Whereas everyday tons of crap gets posted up for sale on this website with no opinion at all…..but I guess if you place advertising here you get a “pass” on judgement by the proprietor. Just sayin’

  3. pass, big time

  4. Kind of a weird thing this print is for The David Lynch Foundation. Paul looks like the girl in the radiator from Eraserhead.

  5. These are still available on the dlftv.com site. If Obey will sell these for half the price, I might go for it. I’m not holding my breath though…

  6. Sheryl Crow is above Eddie Vedder in the billing? WTF?!

Paul looks totally botox’d up. He’s a 65 year old man. Give him some wrinkles for chrissakes.

  7. Hi ya – Some posters can just hit the nail on the head, represent the feel, the music or image of the band – I adore Fairey and also McCartney so this should be a winner winner chicken dinner but sorry Mr F this IMO is a huge bypass.

  8. Not the best looking poster, but it is an effective design to promote a show.

  9. nope

  10. Tell you what – On reflection there is one point that we have all over looked.
Getting Ringo and Paul on the same poster / gig where they played together is a rare item

  11. +1 for the mention of 65 year oldness.

  12. will sell out within 30 minutes. Ima pass

  13. Looks like Alice from the Brady Bunch.

  14. Paul looks like corky from life goes on

  15. @Cardhawks: Is it really hard to imagine that Shepard Fairey would be held to a higher standard than some artist printing small editions themselves? C’mon man. Also, I don’t think it’s out of line at all to say that there are many prints on this site everyday that smoke this in every way.

$!00 too much for this print, he should have offered it for $45 on his site!

  17. Bummer.

As a big fan of Fairey’s work, and posters in general it was hard for me to X out of the tab when I had a chance to pick this one up. I hit Obey’s site in time, and was one click away from buying this poster but realized I don’t want my first Obey print to be this one. I know I could I have bought it and flipped it on Ebay, but this just seems to be a disappointing print.

  18. dont like this .. at all

  19. Great call CaseyHuck !
It would have soured the experience !

  20. sorry, this one stinks. it’s fairey as hired gun doing what he’s told (or, that’s what it seems like to me). not much soul here… the image of mccartney is not the best to utilize in this poster… very bland!

  21. big thumbs down….fugly….
caseyhuck…and anyone else, buy an obey eye or the guerilla one print for less/same price….those are classics, this “thing” is awe-full….
sorry for the negative, I just don’t like it(really is bad).

  22. horrible with a capital sucks.

  23. Hey Robber, Don’t apologize isn’t that what Shepard promotes. Your freedom of speech

  24. The Guerrilla One print is a classic? C’mon…

  25. this print may not be eye candy I agree, but if I was going to play armchair gigposter investor, I would call this one a long term homerun. Just think about it.

  26. I bought 2 posters. They can’t compete with Fairey’s first ones, but then can he ever top the Obama posters?

  27. Posters are still on sale on DLF.TV.
