Arkitip just released two brand new Evan Hecox art prints, and they are a nice departure from the Black Sun releases he’s been doing lately.  Both “Montauk” and “Ghosts of Winter” are 16″ x 20″ screenprints, have editions of 200, and are $125 each.  Visit Arkitip.com.

The Silent Giants are a new three-man design team from Michigan, and though they’ve only done a few posters so far, they are already garnering alot of praise and attention.  They have been lucky enough to work with notable acts like Xiu Xiu, Wolf Parade, The National, Bon Iver, and more.  They have just opened their online store, selling their posters for the first time (don’t worry, I already schooled them on how to ship posters properly).  Everything pictured below is super limited and available for a mere $20 each.  Support these dudes, they deserve it.  They print everything themselves, giving their work a truly handmade feel.  Watch for big things in the future.  Visit their Big Cartel Store.

The newest Obey print is a collaboration between Shepard Fairey and photographer Glen E. Friedman.  It depicts a famous photo of Public Enemy, and will be signed by Fairey, Friedman, and Chuck D.  This one has an increased price of $80 and an edition of 400.  It will be released sometime today (Thursday, August 7).  Keep an eye on ObeyGiant.com.

Letter Pressed is now selling the tenth entry in their artist series, an art print by Drew Millward.  Drew is a true OMG favorite, I can’t get enough of his work.  This one is a 6″ x 8″ letterpress print, has an edition of 50, and is $38.  Visit the Letter Pressed store.

Looks like Todd Slater’s new Ween posters will drop this Friday, there are five in all.  They will not be sold individually, but rather in a couple of different bundles.  The first bundle includes the St. Paul and Iowa posters for $75 (the two with the pictures of the Ween boys), the second includes Millvale, Tulsa, and Fayetteville for $120 (the other three), and the third includes all five posters for $195.  These are going to disappear fast, so be on your game.  This goes down Friday, August 8 at 2pm CST.  Visit ToddSlater.net.

Years Doing Posters: 5 maybe? Seriously for about 3. The first few were just like any other artistic project where I was aping others’ styles to figure out how it works.

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: I’m not sure on this, really. I really like the Blackmetal Beethoven poster i did as it was the most colors I’d printed myself. I’ve got a version of the Mary i just did on the inside of Bleeding Through’s new album that I’m hoping to make into a rather large print. I might have to have someone like D&L print that. It’s tough to pick out a favorite as they each sort of have their stories whether they’re “this one sucks because it was rushed. holy shit, look at how sloppy the printing is” or one where i put more work into it than i should have. The High On Fire with the little girl holding the skull was a lot of fun as it’s my ladyfriend’s daughter and we took reference photos and got her dolled up in a cute dress and she responded with, “guys, i don’t feel like me. none of my friends have to see these photos, right?” which i thought was fairly amazing and self-aware for a 7-year-old.

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did: Oh Christ. No idea. This could be anywhere from Jermaine’s Helmet poster I still don’t own (with the rabid rabbit) to a handful of Horkey or Pushead prints/posters. That Whale Bone Grove one is one I’m going to need to get by selling some other Horkeys to pay for it.  Jeral Tidwell just got one of those and the frame he put together for it is unreal. Oh and there’s also Jay Ryan’s Shellac Squirrels poster too… but that might just be because there’s no way i can get my hands on it, so i of course NEED it. Same with Horkey’s Andrew Bird poster from a few years back. I could’ve bought it for $70 and at the time would have never thought to spend that much on a poster. Now, several flat files of poster coffins later, I deeply regret this. Also in the running is that insane Burwell Decemberists poster with the weird house thing coming alive.

Music Currently In Rotation: I’m in a horrible dry spell where i’m bored with everything. I absolutely hate when this happens as i can’t check email without some sort of sound blaring from my speakers. Recent random spots on iTunes include: Faith No More, Tomahawk, Converge, Isis, Bleeding Through, Common, Tool, NIN - the fragile, Three 6 Mafia, Jay-Z, Oxbow, Nas - I’ve never liked him, but I actually like his new one, Melvins, D. Biddle.

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: I just got in a set of overpriced candles from Modern Alchemy. The last art print was Mike Sutfin’s Subhumans poster (ADMIN EDIT:  I’ve been meaning to write up a post about this thing, it rules, it’s available here). I met him a few years ago and he’s remained a friend since. He is an awesome guy with simply amazing art.  Oh! I’ve got a tube of Kozik posters over at the studio I need to bring home!

Art Hanging On Your Walls:  (Admin Edit:  For the record, this is a small amount of what Justin sent me for pictures, he has a pretty serious art collection).

Upcoming Stuff: A 28-page cd design/booklet + stage banners for Bleeding Through out on Trustkill Records. Iron Fist Clothing have used about 8-10 of my poster designs for their new clothing line this fall, Melvins and Witchcraft posters to be released this weekend. Russian Circles tour posters I need to do and print within the next week, some I Want Your Skull stuff, J!NX clothing designs, merchandising like the Hot-Topic supporting art whore I am and a few other projects that I can’t even remember at the moment.

Work hard. No one is going to just give you anything. Surround yourself with supportive people and art that makes you need to to up your game. Like me, life is short. There’s no sense in wasting time burning bridges and being angry. Living with 6 cats is probably not the smartest decision I’ve ever made.
