Tonight’s Tiny Showcase Print: Ben Kehoe

Tiny Showcase is on a roll, I tell ya. Tonight they are releasing a print by Andy’s brother, Ben Kehoe. I have featured Ben’s work on here before, and it’s really great. The print is bound to be small and inexpensive, and will come out tonight at 7:30 pm EST. Visit TinyShowcase.com.

Tiny Showcase doesn’t preview their prints, but here is some of Ben Kehoe’s other work:

Ten Questions With Leia Bell

Years Doing Posters: screenprinted since 2000, black & whites since 1994

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: Pixies poster, because they are my all-time favorite band– it was an honor to design something for them

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did:  Dan McCarthy’s “taking” (bunnies+strawberries+underground skeleton=magic)

Music Currently In Rotation: oh man… today?  Pinback, The Shins, Why?, Andrew Bird, Band of Horses, The Roches, The Smiths, Blonde Redhead… off the top of my head

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: Little Friends of Printmaking’s “Wassup Jammers” (it should be in my mailbox today!)

Art Hanging On Your Walls: at my house= several Dan McCarthy prints, Jay Ryan’s “Don’t go alone, go with a friend”, a couple of Tara McPherson posters, a painting by Justin Reynolds (of San Francisco), a painting by Trent Call (of Salt Lake City), Print Mafia’s Bright Eyes, Chuck Keppler’s The Only Children, other stuff made by family members

Upcoming Stuff: I’ll have a custom toy in a group show, “Pandora’s Toy Box” (opening May 15th in Charleston, WV) ; My new poster gallery/store “Signed & Numbered” will have its grand opening May 16th- featuring posters and art prints by contemporary artists of the gigposters world ; Flatstock Chicago this July ; possibly a solo show at the WV gallery this fall

Words of Wisdom: My grandma turns 100 this summer, so I asked her what her secret is… “Lighten up!” she says, and “eat an egg every day.” So there ya go.

Ten Questions With Dirk Fowler

For this installment of ten questions, I have asked my favorite letterpress artist to stop by.  Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Dirk Fowler.

Age: 37

Location: Lubbock, Texas

Years Doing Posters: 8

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: Probably my Ramblin’ Jack Elliott poster. Partly because I like the drawing, but mostly because of who it’s for. Ramblin’ Jack is an American icon. He had been at the top of my “people I’d like to make a poster for” list for a long time.

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did: There are so many posters that I love, but I’d say either Jeff Kleinsmith’s  Built to Spill ‘95 tour poster or Thomas Scott’s poster for Scenic. Both are absolutely perfect and both were strong influences in my early poster making days.

Music Currently In Rotation: Little Milton, The Clash, The Raconteurs, The Dirtbombs

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: I haven’t purchased many lately. The last was Leia Bell’s Harry and the Potters poster. A gift for my wife. I did buy a really cool toy recently.  A StrangeCo. Vivisect by Amanda Visell and one by Joe Ledbetter. Most toys I buy mysteriously become the property of my two little boys.

Art Hanging On Your Walls: I have tons of posters that I change out periodically. A few that have made it into frames and remain constant are a signed Milton Glaser, Bob Dylan poster, one of Jim Sherraden’s (Hatch Show Print) huge monoprints, and a little painting by Brian Turner of Cricket Press.

Upcoming Stuff: A few Wilco posters, a poster for a new book release and a couple of CD packages.

Words of Wisdom: There’ll be plenty of time to sleep when you’re dead.
