Nate Duval’s “Brooklyn” Art Print

Nate Duval just released this beautiful new art print, one depicting an image of Brooklyn’s famous Domino Sugar factory.  It’s a six color screenprint, measures an easily frameable 18″ x 24″, has an edition of 70, and is $40.  With the factory potentially being converted to luxury condos in the near future, this print release was perfectly timed.  Visit NateDuval.com.

EDIT: Looks like right after I wrote this, Nate put two more brand new art prints up.  “Flowers I and II” are each 18″ x 24″ screenprints, and are only THREE COLORS!  Amazing.  Edition of 75, $45 each or $80 for the pair.  NateDuval.com.

Ten Questions With David D’Andrea

For today’s Ten Questions, I asked one of my favorite up and comers to drop by.  This dude is a serious talent, pay attention.  Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. David D’Andrea.

Age: 33

Location: Oakland, CA.

Years Doing Posters: I’ve been doing xeroxed flyers for Oakland/Sf shows since 97 or so. I’ve been putting out screen printed posters on a regular basis for only about 1.5 years.

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: Om/Lichens West Coast Pilgrimage. Creating an image for Om was an absolute pinnacle for me. Their (Al, Chris, and Matt collectively as Sleep and now OM and High on Fire) influence on my artwork has been immeasurable.  The images came to me naturally, and I pushed the amount of colors and intricacy of the separations. Monolith Press has been with me all the way (thanks Mauz) and we really went for it with the Om print.  I feel that it set the bar for me spiritually and technically, as far as prints go.

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did: Alan Forbes’ Mudhoney. It’s a testament to rock posters…modern and retro simultaneously. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the original…an 8.5×11″ inked version of the entire poster, text and all.  Meeting Alan has been one of the greatest benefits of my involvement in the poster scene thus far. We really push each others’ abilities. It’s not uncommon to receive a  snapshot of a freshly inked piece at 5am. We are both insane night owls and workaholics!

Music Currently In Rotation:
Daniel A.I.U. Higgs “Metempsychotic Melodies”
Danava “UnonoU”
Jex Thoth “ST”
Witch “Paralyzed”
Dark “Round the Edges”
Black Mountain “In the Future”
Pandit Pran Nath “Midnight”.

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: Takato Yamamoto’s “Secret Traces of Night” portfolio.

Art Hanging On Your Walls: A Barron Storey signed digital print. Barron is the closest thing I have to a mentor. He is an OG dark-sider and absolutely the most inspirational person I have ever met.  Alan Forbes’ Mudhoney (see question #5).  Monica Canilao, various pieces.  An old Pushead Septic Death “Need So Much Attention” print from the Pushead fanclub circa mid 80’s.  Also tons of paper/print/packaging ephemera from years past, flyers, some of my own stuff, etc.

Upcoming Stuff: Posters: Witchcraft in Ohio and OKC, Danava in Portland, Witch in SF, and the “Fall into Darkness” festival in Portland.
Albums: Wino “Punctuated Equilibrium”, Loss “Despond”, Samothrace full length, Nadja/Campbell Kneale collaborative album, etc.
Also a bunch of un-announcable projects involving zines, books, film,  and of course more posters!

Words of Wisdom: Let the Wookie win.

Tyler Stout’s “Vermont” Art Print (Onsale Info)

The always amazing Tyler Stout decided to make an art print edition out of his stunning Vermont Film Festival poster, and he already sold half of them with the quickness last week.  This print was produced in four different versions, with 20 of each colorway making up the total edition of 80.  This way, everyone can find a color they like.  It is an 18″ x 24″ screenprint with a price of $30 each.  The other half of the edition will go up later today (Tuesday, July 29) sometime in the afternoon (CST) at Postersandtoys.com.  Less than 10 copies of each color will be available, so be quick.  Visit Postersandtoys.com.

Ten Questions With The Little Friends Of Printmaking

For today’s Ten Questions, I wrangled up the amazing midwestern design duo The Little Friends of Printmaking.  Great design, great people.  Enjoy.

Age: Too old for this shit.

Location: Milwaukee, Wisc.

Years Doing Posters: 5.

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: Wait a minute, did that say 5 years? Suddenly I’m terribly depressed about everything we’ve done. We could’ve joined the peace corps or something. We should’ve started an organic farm. I could’ve had a baby goat. And a donkey with a hat.

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did: My favorite one that I own is this one by Art Chantry:

Music Currently In Rotation: “Bust that Nut (downtown mix)” by Poopee & The N.Y. Squirrels, from a 12”. “The Rhinohead (Pilooski Edit)” by Von Südenfed, also from a 12”. Marcos Valle’s “Garra” LP. “Red Lady” by Phil Cordell, from a 7”. The new Hercules and Love Affair LP. “Prisencolinensinainciusol” by Adriano Celentano, from a 7”.

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: Toys which I have recently bought:

  1. Eric So’s Subsonic figure (I made sure to get the one with the frowny face, which suits my disposition / world view) – SIGNED! I was looking for this one for years. This is one of the first toys I ever wanted.
  2. Chogokin To-Fu Oyako. Thank god it has a head that opens up to hold all the extra pieces. I hate when toys don’t have that. It’s basically one of the most perfect toys we own. It would be very hard to improve.
  3. Nendoroid Kemeko Plus, which is this lady from an anime that I have never seen. I just like her suit.

We have to work very hard to not buy so much stuff that our place looks like PeeWee’s Playhouse. It’s a sickness.

Art Hanging On Your Walls: We only hang our own work up. Plus mirrors.

Upcoming Stuff: We have an upcoming exhibition at Kong in Mexico City called “Mind Gangsters.” We have one coming up at Threadless in Chicago, called “Tough Luck,” as well as one at Hot Pop in Milwaukee, which does not yet have a title because we are not title machines. I suggest you go to all of them. We have to.

Words of Wisdom: Learn to say “NO.” NO NO NO NO NO.

Grab all the LFOP stuff you can handle at their Etsy store.

New Obey Art Print: “Duality Of Humanity II”

Looks like Shepard Fairey is officially back.  “Duality Of Humanity II” is definitely my favorite Obey print in months, nice to see a return to this style.  According to the site, this will actually drop sometime today (Saturday, July 26).  Should be chaos, keep you eye on ObeyGiant.com.
