  1. Looks like a giant Bruce Timm swipe to me.

  2. Looks like a cool print to me.

  3. Scruffy seconds that.

  4. Unfortunately looks just like the pic in this link.

  5. Love his work.

  6. Up now (12:30 EST)

  7. I don’t get these. What am I missing?

  8. Cool, but all three look the same, is it my browser?

  10. i am with ryan on this one i dont really get what the hell is going on all over this print. want a print by this fellow but i hope he doenst keep making me say “huh?”

  11. “Cool, but all three look the same, is it my browser?”

It could be your browser, but the colour difference is not as obvious unless you enlarge the images.

  12. The hair colour is a better item to focus on to see the differences.

  13. 13, are you this guy? His wife maybe? I’m pretty sure if these posts did not include, “a current member of the American military”, we would have never seen this cat’s stuff.

  14. Because I posted I like the work, I’m suddenly him?

Have you seen his other prints? They’re nice.

  15. Maybe all that Certificate stuff is like a cheap digital image watermark or something. I have picked up an earlier print and received a certificate that looked like it. I dunno, it’s a neat wonder woman image from BT.

  16. If I’m building a case based on this thread, 13, you ARE Lifeversa. OMG posts the best stuff, so congrats on being up here, for real.

  17. No, sorry to disappoint.

Someone over at EB had a nice theory about this print.

“I think the statement is that many popular artists pass off other people’s work as their own simply by adding something a little different to it (that in no way changes the image) and then supplying a COA. As if a blatant rip-off is ok if you add a COA.”

  18. This one confused me but I do think that his other prints had an interesting perspective. I’ve been digging his work, haven’t purchased anything yet but I’ve been keeping my eye on him.

  19. if 13 is correct on the meaning of the piece I’d have loved to see it in LifeVersa’s post about it.
I’m all for art for art sake but when something is trying to convey a meaning (and uses someone else’s art) a couple sentences about it would help me care more.

  20. Maybe Bruce and this guy are the same? Any chance of that.

  21. No. But the parody is intentional.

  22. From EB, post by machination – “From the man himself (I thought I would ask him instead of speculating too much).”

“”First: a buddy of mine once said “Hell hath no fury like a Wonder Woman scorned.” I laughed ’til my sides hurt. Second: we live in a world of excessive advertising where everything from magazines to movies are loaded with more advertising than content. Who’s to say art isn’t the next frontier. I just wanted to get a head start. Third: I love the Picasso quote “Good artists borrow, great artists steal” so I found it ironic to place a Certificate of Authenticity on a stolen piece of art. Finally: “God is an angry bastard — she told me so herself.” – Wale””

  23. I, for one, appreciate when an artist can make me think, regardless of the method. Art isn’t just meant to appease the eyes. I saw the print, didn’t get it at first, put on my thinking cap, and viola… makes sense, loved it even more, puchased it.

  24. I got the Love Balloon print; which I think is Really cool. Not in Love with this one. The C of A all over it is particularly weird and distracting.

  25. Maybe I’m thinking too simplistically but this is a flat swipe with some crap slapped on it. I’ve liked a few of the others but this just kills it for me. As if coloring it and adding some detail on the waist is enough. Sad.

  26. ^ read above comments, j_Smitty

  27. OK WAIT….THIS ISNT BRUCE TIMM FROM THE LINK ABOVE? Thats Fucked Up.

  28. I think its funny that this artist (who’s proven that he’s got some talent) tries to make a statement “that many popular artists pass off other people’s work as their own simply by adding something a little different to it (that in no way changes the image) and then supplying a COA” is getting crucified for it. Yet the “popular artists” he’s referencing (MBW, Shep) do it all the time and get applauded and sell out within minutes. Ironic, no?

  29. i can’t stop thinking about this. @13, thats cool. But he’s Doing that, for 65$, to prove that point? That doesn’t check out to me.

  30. Yeh this isn’t cool. I’m down for artists using photographs to draw inspiration from, been happening for years, but taking a drawing by a well respected artist?

  31. Normally I would agree, but there are so many artists who do the same thing that you’d have to call everyone else out too. Re-using an image is “allowed” as long as it’s a parody or there’s an alternative meaning. Obviously this is somewhat subjective, but the artist would have the final say on that one unless it’s outright illegal.

  32. Anyone get his most recent email about the “braindead” edition? makes the whole situation much clearer…

  33. @nick what’s the deal with the braindead edition aside from being as expensive as a house and probably a joke…

Also I’m with Ryan and think 13 is either Life Versa or a friend… And it would be refreshing to know.

  34. I got the braindead email…I think it is a joke. I think 13 is a friend or wife, but I think Life Versa and Timm are friends. I feel that someone other than Obey would not rip off another artist.

  35. @smonk I feel like the “braindead edition” makes it pretty clear that this whole thing is sort of a parody/commentary of Mr. Brainwash stuff…three different editions with slightly switched colors…basically taking some other image but then giving it a thumb print of “authenticity”…braindead takes it a step farther with the splattered paint, etc.

  37. sorry for the double post…dont know why that happened

  38. I’ve been posting on this site for a long time now. I’m not affiliated with LifeVersa in any way, and I’ve already said that. So there’s no point in repeatedly saying “it would be nice to know,” as if someone hasn’t already told you and you’re speaking to the wind.

I was merely pointing out what was obvious to begin with.
