Aaron Horkey’s Deadwood Print

Here’s a stunning look at Aaron Horkey’s Deadwood-themed art print that is part of the 2010 Mid America Print Council Conference.  This has to be one of the more interesting approaches I’ve ever seen to a television or movie art project.  It’s a 10″ x 24″ eight color screenprint.  A ton of other artists will also be involved in the series (including Jay Ryan, see his here), all referencing the cult HBO show.  The prints will be viewable at the conference, then available via the artists after the show.  No word yet on availability at the actual show.  For more info on the conference, visit the MAPC.

  1. pretty cool

  2. Hahah. I love it!! It’s got personality.
Nice departure from the usual twigs and berries. Jay Ryan’s print is great as well. It should be titled: C0cksucka!

  3. i am a huge fan of the series. this dan dority skate deck is brilliant.

  4. i wonder if this will be available on dead arts or on posters and toys. any idea when this will go on sale?

  5. I am a HUGE Horkey fan, but I am personally not feelin this one at all

  6. I’m with Matt on this one…huge Horkey fan but not diggin’ this one…maybe it’s better in person.

  7. Would love to see the other artists’ DEADWOOD prints. One of the greatest shows ever.

  8. Game over, man. Game over! Insanity.

  9. I actually dig it. Part of it for me though is knowing that he kinda got part of his start off designing decks, so it kinda is a throw back to me which i like!

  10. Oh no. Wrong turn for Horkey. This is like a weak parody of his work.

  11. Yeah, I’m not feeling it either. Jay Ryan’s is much more on theme.

  12. Roskopp?

  13. Aside from the rad two-tone lettering I’m not really feeling this one. I also have not watched Deadwood yet, maybe I’ll watch that before I really make up my mind.

  14. Hey All, this is Dan Ibarra from Aesthetic Apparatus. This print is commissioned as part of a 20-artist Deadwood-inspired print folio that will be released, and on display, at Aesthetic Apparatus next Wednesday, Oct, 13th. More info, along with other print previews, can also be found on this gigposters.com thread: http://gigposters.com/forums/gallery-shows/151971-dead-wood-print-folio-inspired-milchs-deadwood-series.html

  15. That one of Wu’s pigs is great, not sure yet on the Horkey.

I could see Moss doing Seth Bullock, and you know a Swearengen has to be coming.

  16. I’m really excited about these, I’ve been watching the entire series over again for the past month, I really forgot how great it was.

  17. deadwood is next in my netflix queue, at which point i will have an instaboner over this print.

  18. Jay Ryan strikes again! But I don’ understand.. how I can get one!

  19. it’s like a rick griffin skate deck

  20. The art is cool. . . but why a skateboard?

  21. I thought that Deadwood was a western/cowboy show – what does this print (which references skateboards) have to do with it? What am I missing?

  22. @ Randall

It’s just a mock product using keywords/references and regarding a main character of the show.

  23. Wow, I can’t wait to see the rest of the series!

  24. Excited to see what else there is.

    Deadwood is/was truly under appreciated.

  25. I like Horkey’s stuff, but I’m not a HUGE fan.. That being said, I really love this print and the idea behind it. Pretty rad.
