“Spider Lily” Art Print by Shepard Fairey (Onsale Info)
Shepard Fairey has another new art print for charity coming out. “Spider Lily” is an 18″ x 24″ screenprint, has an edition of 450, and will be $50. They go up today (Thursday, November 5th) at a random time. Visit ObeyGiant.com.

Shepard fairey makes me want to puke.
I wish he’d stop Live-tracing bad photos… this is actually worse than those jordan prints.
shepard fairey is a bozo
this is hysterical, hahaha I actually laughed out loud, Shep from the 90’s where are you?
can’t wait til he redoes Monet’s water lillies and they get on mugs, mouse pads and rugs and come in a stitch yourself pattern.
oooh a flower…what is this? who is going to want that
Haha wow. I agree with jao, Shep’s early stuff was better. It had more of an edge and militaristic feel. Is this new charity print meant to soften his image to the courts. “But your honor, yes my client, covered up the evidence and pointed the wrong picture as his source, but you know what? He gives a lot of his prints to charity and many of his prints are cute spider lily flowers and windmills and swirly tidal waves.”
It’s either that, Shep went Zen, or he’s running out of stuff to copy, oops I mean incorporate. Here’s a tip Shep F L I CK R.
i actually like this one…to each his own.
Sold out quickly, and without any store or cart problems. I didn’t have to try for an hour or more to get this one. Have Obey Giant sales suddenly gotten easier?
demand is not as high for this print compared to other fairey’s. volume was down which made checkout easier. took 30 minutes to sell out as opposed to 5
@Peter,
it took 8 minutes to sell out but thanks for making up random facts to try and help back up your weak argument of low demand.
soon to be stamped on the back of a levi jacket!
ready to vent….here it comes.
me, I have kept some….but selling/flipping is the norm.
my favorite part is listing for 100+/- on ebay….for a print that is over 70 to get to me….after fees and bs I make 10-15….and I’m considered the evil flipper!!!
it is comical….you find a print you want….let’s say the obey elephant….high demand, right….shoots up to 300+ immediately….
you ’score’ a print off obey today….in order to get this damn elephant you are going to ‘flip’ your score it to get what you really ‘want’….
but….you are a flipper!?!?!
oh, and don’t get me started on this sh*thead listing on ebay for charity…..10k+….hey shep and company; how about those ebay fees!!!—not everyone is out to rip you off or your so called loyal followers.

Can everyone with even the slightest pro-Fairey stance just stay outta these threads so that all the whiners can whine to/with each other? It would be even more pathetic at that point.
Yeah i was guessing about 8 mins too. I’d call that pretty good demand. I also liked this print. I haven’t been collecting for very long so I have no preconceived notions of what Shepard’s stuff should look like.
The input on this thread is simply amazing. This print doesn’t do anything for me but read the background on it before asking stupid questions and wondering who would want it.
@fee I don’t think it sold out as quickly as you think it did.
I added one to my cart about 30 min into the sale pondered it for a minute and decided to set it free…
Yeah, you’re right, we should totally dogpile on someone doing art for charity. There couldn’t possibly be any reason to do something nice other than to be an asshole.
i purchased a copy 30 minutes after it went on sale.
Well, I back Shep selling anything and using his name to help charity and give to the less fortunate or those in need. If he is helping a good cause, I wouldn’t mind if he was selling obey hair clippings and bags of his own feces.
From an artistic standpoint, I really don’t dig the artwork on this print.
@robbr – WTF are you on about? I haven’t the slightest idea what your problem is with the eBay charity auction. You make no sense whatsoever.
i am selling my copy for $250 on ebay right now. let me know if you are interested.
“Shep from the 90’s where are you?”
He moved on so should you. Doing the same for 20 years would be extremely boring.
tim…..
you can dogpile on me…..the charity print is a good arguement…for someone who sees the ebay crowd as….not good.
the point(which I made poorly) is I think obey(shepard) can relate to an evil ebay’er/flipper/scumbag….he sold a print for 10k….well not really; he just got dinged with some heavy fees….
my question would be, if the buyer immediately listed that 10k charity print at 15k and sold it for that amount: is he/she an evil flipper?—between his/her fees to ebay/paypal/shipping/this guy that guy…you’d be pressed to say after it’s all said and done that they ‘ripped off’ or gouged anyone.
for those that actually have ebay seller accounts—they can relate. it’s no walk in the park. more money is spent on fees/shipping/insurance blah blah blah then you would think.
robbr
the print sold out way quicker then 30 minutes, its possible some more were released 30 minutes after the initial onsale. i personally like this print, although im not going to keep it. yeah shep, the charity king, what a d-bag. no sir its you thats the d-bag.
But this print IS boring. Just saying. At least the Jordan ones were funny. This is like, bathroom art.
But if it raises money for charity then I can get behind it.
Kind of…
No, totally, I can get into the charity thing.
I is down
Is it just me, or have comments here become a lot more hateful as of late? Where’s all of this coming from? When did art collectors become such douchebags? Seriously.,, Haters… the lot of you. Try happy thoughts for once. Happy people live longer.
Shut the heck up Tom. (wish this site had a sarcasm font)
@Tom W
Where’ve you been? This place has always been full of people baggin’ on Fairey.
They’re not art collectors any more than someone who flips a rock of cocaine is a pharmacist.
Here’s an artist who changed a bit over 20 years.

Yeah. This is total shit. I’m going to grab that crab attacking the cars that is getting great comments a few posts down. That print is totally rad and will be 100% relevant 10 years from now.
I think it’s snowballing. Like someone turned down the caring meter in Care-a-lot.. Someones got to stop Professor Coldheart before it’s too late.
1. To the person who is using my name in an attempt to make me look like a flipper: you’re an idiot and anyone who actually thinks that post was me is an idiot as well.
2. To all the people who don’t like this print: DON’T BUY IT…. my god, you all sound like the little bitch ass phillie fans who have been crying all day because they lost the world series. It’s was done for charity and in the big picture nobody really gives a shit that some tool posting on a blog doesn’t like it. There are tons of prints that I don’t like but I’ve never once felt the need to get into a pissing match to prove just how much I don’t like something.
3. Admin: I’d recommend shutting down the comments for this before things get really out of hand. Haters will continue with the personal attacks in an attempt to make their opinion seem like it’s more important then the next person. You have a cool site and I’d hate to see it go to crap of have people stop visiting because of a handful of douchbags.
@robbr – First, it wasn’t a print, it was a fine art stencil collage on paper….HUGE difference. Second, fees on a $10k eBay transaction are roughly $200. Paypal might be another $300. Fees are definitely excessive on cheaper items, when you end up paying 9% in eBay fees + 3% for Paypal, but eBay fees drop off to 1.5% on items over $1000. Just saying.
straight out wack.
I guess people don’t like the new Obey print, huh? Sheesh.
To those who said they bough one 30 minutes after it went on sale are liars. This print sold out in under 10 minutes. Sure you might have had one in your cart for 30 minutes, but when you go to check out, you will get an out of stock message. This print is one of the best this year for Shep, and none of you cry baby haters will change that.
wow, people like to make money…what a novel concept
kids like to argue about such
grow up
I have purchased this print. I am very happy that i did. I will keep this print until my daughter needs money for college, or until it sells for over $400. I also got Jessica, ooooh i know everyone hates Jessica. I think Jessica is a beautiful print plus i have a good friend that was just diagnosed with breast cancer so that one was a no brainer.
Can anyone name one artist that you have liked every piece of work? Thats the beauty of art! Who cares if you decide to sell your purchased print, we are in America!!
This thread rules, so entertaining.
Classic.
Mm good question. One artist where you love every out put
for me it’s faile but those guys are in another league.
Oh well some love it and some hate it. Isn’t that a core emotional reaction that art should prevoke ?
This print sold out so fast. It was the fastest ever. Bestest print in the world.
You can have mine for $300.
I dont understand why everyone has to piss on each other or on an artist. I dont really like this print but who cares? who am I and who are you? If you dont like it, dont buy it. you dont need to like everything fairey has done. Thats the whole point. maybe hes trying to reach a group of people who have never even heard of him before? What does it matter to anyone else but him?
Dear Admin,
Thanks for not censoring the criticism. Reading this thread totally made my Friday morning. Love him or hate him Fairey is controversial and that’ll keep him popular. Fairey is sort of like the Glenn Beck of printmaking.
I’ve collected his stuff in the early days around 1997, when prints were $18, they were limited to 100, 150. To order, you would have to write your choices and then 2 alternative prints for each choice. Then you would mail it to San Diego with a check, and then wait to see what they mailed back.
I don’t know what they do now, but the shipping tube would arrive all tagged up with different giant stamps, and a packet of free giant stickers would be included. Most of the times the prints weren’t even rolled in protective paper, just bubble wrap on the empty space of the tube.
I got rid of most my prints after the whole plagiarism controversy but I still keep a couple. Definitely the way of ordering Giant prints are different now then it was 10 years ago.
To get a more fuller picture of Fairey as an artist check out the NPR interviews and other interviews he participated in. Good or great artists easily define their intentions and subtle purposeful details of their works, ie Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, etc..
It would be interesting to know whats Fairey’s interpretation of this Spider Lily (haha I’m trying not to be bias either way).
Wow lots of panties in a wad here. I guess it’s true that bitches all go on the rag at the same time! If you don’t like it buy it. Every artist will evolve over time especially as they age. Fact of life.
This print sold out in under 10 minutes… I know as I was C4C like a mofo and picked one up as soon as they dropped….
Anyone who’s talking about picking up one 30 minutes into the sale is straight up wrong. False. Just plain wrong and full of it… Unless they have no idea when the print went up, in which case they’re just talking out of there ass…
… and yes, EB is currently down
Tony I’m not 100% percent sure what C4C is. Please explain to a newbie. I also got a print but it was more through a gut feeling that they were up. Thanks
WTF I got refunded. A day later? How is that possible?
+1, i just got refunded too…&%#$@*&^%@*&!!!!!
refunded…..oversold????
not surprising….another joyous obey transaction.
