“Polluted Culture: Volume 2″ Art Print by Jermaine Rogers (Onsale Info)

Jermaine Rogers is back with yet another amazing, culturally delicious art print.  “Polluted Culture: Volume 2″ is going to be a huge 20″ x 38″ screenprint.  It will drop Tuesday, February 3rd between 12pm-3pm Mountain Time.  Visit JermaineRogers.com.

Here is what Jermaine had to say about the piece:

“Seeing the totality of modern popular culture as one whole, dissecting it, and re-attaching its parts is a wonderful and satisfying exercise. Years ago, before the first ‘Polluted Culture’ print, I did an image for a Mudhoney flyer depicting the Beatles as a grunge band…ripped jeans, Chuck Taylor’s, and all. Here, I wanted to revisit that aesthetic in a sense. I chose to take the band that many feel are the modern-day torch bearers of the Beatles, U2. The imagery from the 1987 album, ‘The Joshua Tree’ was always very striking to me. The starkness and weighty aura surrounding the photographs of the band were almost religious…and actually very prophetic in a sense: this was the album that many feel rocketed them to ‘biggest-band-in-the-world’ status. To depict the Beatles in this modern ‘clothing’ was delicious. Pop culture belongs to you and me. We birthed it and groom it every day. ‘We are the music makers and the dreamers of the dreams’. Culture is ours to hijack and choreograph. Past popular culture is our plaything. We can do whatever we want with it. You don’t need a reason.”>

  1. I would like to see other peoples views on this as I find this a bit of the mark in terms of execution and subject.

  2. i’m wondering how much this is gonna cost.
also, george kinda looks like charles manson. and ringo kinda looks like lemmy.

  3. I love it. I like the idea of just mish-mashing popular culture together for absolutely no reason at all. Their likenesses are starker and harder which adds to the atmosphere. Very cool :)

  4. Its a good idea. I wouldnt buy it though. I have always thought the Beatles sucked and U2 think they are holier then thou.

  5. LOL someone teach Brian music 101 please…….

  6. I actually think this is pretty cool. I’m not a huge U2 fan, but I certainly know that nearly everyone else in the world is (???). I have to agree with moog though in a way.

I would think it would be more relevant to reimagine U2 on a beatles cover– throw them on Revolver or something– though maybe that inversion is the point.

All that said, I still think it’s a pretty cool idea, I’m just not sure exactly what Jermaine is saying with this, but then from his description, maybe that’s the point…

  7. one iconic band on another’s iconic (and gorgeous) cover – perfect. hope it’s not uber pricey.

  8. I like it. Don’t know if it is purchase worthy, but it really is an interesting piece. I like the pseudo-cartoon rendition of the beatles on with the realistic backdrop. I like the mash up–iconic artists in an iconic photo. I like this much more than if it was u2 crossing abby road or something.

I like everything about it, but I don’t know if I will purchase it….and I’m not sure why.

  9. Flipper, just because I dont like waht a million other people like, or what you like for that matter, doesn’t mean that I need to be taught ANYTHING about music. I just dont like it and I’m entitled to my opinion.

  10. Hey Admin, Can I speak my mind? I think George looks like Rasputin and Ringo looks like Stallone and Paul looks like an alien. Just my opinion. Thank You

  11. Then don’t buy the print, buddy. Jermaine Rogers has been unstoppable lately and his manipulation of images to express controversial and progressive ideas is admirable to say the least. Still, his prints will never appeal to everyone and frankly, I think I like the print more because Chuck D doesn’t.

  12. Yeah, I actually really like this one.

  13. Brian – You always think the Beatles suck.
Wow – you live in a dark world. I don’t know many people (except Goths) who don’t like the Beatles.
    are you a Goth ?

  14. I will say The Beach Boys are the best band on Earth.
