Ten Questions With Jason Munn aka The Small Stakes
For this week’s first Ten Questions, I have asked one of the more consistent designers I know, Jason Munn aka The Small Stakes. I’m a huge fan of his work, you probably are too. Enjoy.

Age: 32
Location: Oakland, CA
Years Doing Posters: About 5

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: My first poster I did for The Books is one of my favorites.

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did: I’ve got quite a few favorites, but one that I keep going back to is Dirk Fowler’s American Analog Set poster. Another favorite is the 5th San Francisco International Film Festival poster by Saul Bass.

Music Currently In Rotation: The Walkmen - Bows and Arrows and The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen are two seem to be on constant rotation. Lots of Constantines as well.

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: The last prints I got were in Austin during Flatstock - I picked up Dirk Fowler’s Willie Nelson poster and Jay Ryan’s Low poster.

Art Hanging On Your Walls: To be quite honest there isn’t any right now. We moved into a house about a year ago and we still don’t have things on the walls. I’ve got a short list of what is getting put up as soon as I get around to it. Jay Ryan’s - Animal Stack print, Aesthetic Apparatus - Danielson, and Dirk’s American Analog Set that I mentioned earlier.

Upcoming Stuff: I just finished a project for Insound that I’m pretty excited about where I did 20 different t-shirt and poster designs for 20 different bands. The designs will be available starting next week. At the moment I’m getting started on a couple new posters for Nada Surf and Built To Spill. Some magazine illustrations and a logo for and organic donut company.
EDIT: The Insound 20 is now available, read more here.
Words of Wisdom: Keep it simple.
