Ten Questions With Alan Forbes

For today’s Ten Questions, I’ve asked a guy who, in my opinion, is producing some of the greatest rock concert posters at the moment.  Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Alan Forbes.

Age: 39

Location: San Francisco

Years Doing Posters: 13

Favorite Poster / Art Print You’ve Done: High On Fire – Lubbock, Texas 2008.

All-time Favorite Poster / Art Print that Someone Else Did: The Earth 2008 West Coast Tour poster by David D’Andrea. It is an amazing poster by a great artist. The amount of thought and detail on this one is great.

Music Currently In Rotation: Leaf Hound “Growers of Mushroom”, OM “Pilgrimage”, Flower Traveling Band “Satori”. All of these lately have been great to work to.

Last Print, Poster, or Toy Bought: MC5 / Straight Theater by Gary Grimshaw. I had the great privilege of working on a Wayne Kramer poster with him a few years ago. One of my favorite of the sixties artists.

Art Hanging On Your Walls: Anything with baphomet on it.

Upcoming Stuff: A few t-shirt lines, Melvins poster for here in S.F., Witchcraft poster, Tee Pee Records Manifest Destiny festival poster.

Words of Wisdom: I have always tried to concentrate on growing as an artist. Let your art speak for itself. Use your influences (good and bad) in your art. If you love your art stay as disciplined as you can, as it comes first. Don’t bash other artists, there is enough room for everybody. Be proud of the art you create without it getting to your head, you will be happier with the outcome.

  3. You know, I don’t really know if he does stuff like that at all. It would be best to contact Justin McNeal, he’s Swampviking on Gigposters and Expressobeans.

  4. Monolith Press in Emeryville prints all of Alans posters. I can get you in contact with them if you are interested in the printing process.
