  1. This is pretty cool. I like how the clouds at the top sort of feel like a curtain

  2. I like it. Especially dig how he’s holding a mechanics light. Haha!

  3. i dig the birds.

  4. i like everything about it except the main character. I love the colors, light, birds but i don’t like the look of the rat/pig thing. then again if it’s based on blue velvet i’m probably not supposed to.

  5. “Let’s fuck! I’ll fuck anything that moves!!”

  6. I agree with greenhorn1.

  7. I don’t understand how this is a take on Blue Velvet. Is it some sort of nitrous hallucination? PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME.

  8. THEY PLAY “IN DREAMS” BY ROY ORBINSON IN THAT MOVIE THAT HAS THE LINE “A CANDY COLORED CLOWN THEY CALL THE SANDMAN TIPTOES TO MY ROOM EVERY NIGHT”

  9. I agree with Matt

  10. GOLD STAR FOR BEEFLOAF!!!

  11. Crazy good.

  12. Obscure reference to Blue Velvet, but I guess the reference is no more obscure than the movie itself. There are so many things an artist could do in relation to that movie, I like this piece, but I feel it wasn’t the best idea for Blue Velvet.

  13. I have no idea what Blue Velvet is, but I love this anyway.

  14. Whoa! This painting is brilliant! Nathan Ota’s artwork is so stunning and cool. I see big things coming for this guy. This is in reference to the scene in Blue Velvet where Frank and his goons go to visit Ben. Ben then steps out from behind a curtain holding the mechanics light and lip sinks to Roy Orbison singing “In Dreams” where one of the lines is “The candy coated clown they call the sandman.” This is not really all that obscure of a scene from the movie. As a matter of fact it is often a favorite of fans of this David Lynch masterpiece.

  15. Nathan Ota has really refined his style over the last couple years. His latest batch of work that was shown at Jesus De Le Luz was totally fucking mint. This guy is going places! He has taken some dope elements from some of my favorite artists and cleaned the shit up added a bunch of pop and zig… Made em his own and wham boom bam… The shit it fly!
